Entrapped
2015
This series is composed of 30 “pieces” (50×50 cm, water colour, paper). The events run in front of our eyes, just like in a film. The history is related to two events running simultaneously: from one hand, moments of a well-known political case, on the other hand, the story of a hunt. Before I start to work on a painting, there is always a period of “collecting”. I collect personal and press photos by different means of media.
Here and there I place some kind of animal into the paintings. It has an important role in the unity of the picture and content, because it symbolizes something. Inferiority and superiority, power relations form each other in the pictures.
I follow the kind of impacts the actual political decisions have on society and how the power relations are being formed. I feel these events define and form the present, where the international and local political events are interlocked, people are interested in them. But looking at my pictures, the spectators can get a certain “intercontinental” point of view, since those stories shown on my “frames” can be observed anywhere in the world. The disturbance can be felt more or less anywhere in a certain measure.
The technics of the paintings: watercolour on paper, which creates a sort of personal approach and can be the link between the spectator and the topic, making it easier to understand a distant and disturbing event.
