Migration Series

Changing residence, moving, migration, where the ‘national border’ and the role of (re)fencing appear as central elements. Furthermore, it is one of the most defining political and sociological events of our time. The images evoke different historical periods, such as 1956, 1989, or indeed 2015. I believe that we are tracing the same event, in which the era and the attitude of the people change. From the perspective of migration, the Austrian-Hungarian border plays a key role; both in terms of the past and the present. In my images, we can follow the migration that took place in the given eras, and I specifically depict the moment of cutting the ‘Iron Curtain,’ which opened the borders for people in every respect. In my paintings, I capture the event itself and its consequences. There is no unnecessary background, just the white surface of the paper, which blindingly exposes our deeds and their consequences.
